Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyễn Minh Vũ recently spearheaded a delegation to the northeastern Cambodian provinces of Stung Treng and Kratie, aiming to bolster cooperation between localities in Vietnam and Cambodia. This visit focused on enhancing bilateral relations, assessing Vietnamese business operations, and addressing the living conditions of the Vietnamese-origin community in the area.
In discussions with provincial leaders, the agenda centered on expanding collaboration in various sectors such as trade, agriculture, infrastructure, energy, and investment. Cambodian officials underscored the increasing ties with Vietnamese provinces through multiple cooperation agreements, business exchanges, and development initiatives. The province of Kratie, in particular, commended the advancements achieved in both diplomatic and socio-economic partnerships with Vietnam, notably through infrastructure support and joint efforts in the recovery and repatriation of remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers from the wartime period in Cambodia.
Ambassador Nguyễn Minh Vũ acknowledged the valuable contributions of Vietnamese enterprises involved in agriculture, mining, and rubber production within Cambodia. He remarked that these ventures have significantly aided local economic development and reinforced the bilateral relationship between the two nations. At the same time, officials in Stung Treng highlighted the province’s prospects for high-tech agriculture and eco-tourism, inviting more Vietnamese businesses to explore investment opportunities in these promising sectors.
During his visit, the ambassador also engaged with members of the Vietnamese-origin community to discuss issues related to legal status and livelihoods. He encouraged the community to adhere to local regulations and emphasized the importance of supporting education and sustainable development initiatives. Currently, Vietnam stands as one of Cambodia’s largest foreign investors, with over 200 investment projects valued at approximately $3 billion.
