As Việt Nam and Singapore look to the future, both nations are committed to enhancing political trust and strategic coordination, particularly in the fields of technology, innovation, and sustainable development. This objective is underscored by Vietnamese leader Tô Lâm’s upcoming state visit to Singapore from May 29 to 31. According to Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyễn Mạnh Cường, the bilateral relations have evolved significantly, moving beyond traditional economic ties to focus on sectors that promise long-term growth and regional integration within ASEAN.
In 2025, the relationship between the two countries was elevated to a comprehensive strategic partnership, a testament to the growing political trust and shared strategic interests. Singapore has maintained its position as one of Việt Nam’s key economic partners, being the second-largest foreign investor. This robust economic partnership includes numerous projects in manufacturing, infrastructure, logistics, finance, real estate, and high technology. A hallmark of this cooperation is the Việt Nam-Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) network, which is now transitioning towards greener and smarter industrial models to meet sustainable development goals.
Both nations are also ramping up collaboration in cutting-edge areas such as artificial intelligence, semiconductor technology, big data, clean energy, digital transformation, and green transition initiatives. Efforts are underway to forge connections between innovation ecosystems, technology enterprises, and skilled talent networks across the two countries. The focus on economic cooperation is expected to be a central theme during Tô Lâm’s visit, alongside discussions on enhancing collaboration in finance, trade, supply chains, and technology development.
Initiatives like “Tech Connect” are anticipated to strengthen ties between governments, universities, research institutes, and private companies in fields such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and green technology. The visit is also expected to pave the way for the next generation of sustainable and high-tech VSIP projects throughout Việt Nam, signaling a continued commitment to innovation and development.
During his trip, Tô Lâm will deliver a keynote address at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, a significant security forum in the region. Vietnamese officials have cited this invitation as a recognition of Việt Nam’s expanding international influence and its steadfast dedication to peace, cooperation, and strategic autonomy.
