Vietnam and Denmark have taken a significant step to bolster their longstanding relations by agreeing to establish a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. This new level of cooperation aims to enhance collaboration in various sectors, including trade, investment, technology, defense, security, and sustainable development.
Announced during Vietnamese President and Communist Party General Secretary To Lam’s state visit to Denmark from October 19 to 21, 2026, the agreement marks the 55th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations. This partnership builds on the foundations of the Comprehensive Partnership initiated in 2013 and the Green Strategic Partnership launched in 2023.
The two countries have committed to expanding political dialogue and parliamentary exchanges, with a keen focus on economic cooperation. Key areas highlighted include renewable energy, green technology, digital transformation, manufacturing, healthcare, education, and transport. Additionally, both nations plan to promote business investments, strengthen supply chains, and improve market access through existing trade agreements.
A significant aspect of this partnership is the mutual commitment to climate action, energy efficiency, and the development of renewable energy projects. These initiatives are in alignment with Vietnam’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. The partnership also extends to maritime security, cybersecurity, research, vocational training, agriculture, and public health.
Vietnam and Denmark have reaffirmed their support for international law, multilateral cooperation, and the peaceful resolution of disputes. They have also expressed backing for regional stability, freedom of navigation, and stronger cooperation with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
Both governments have pledged to develop action plans to implement the partnership and convert their commitments into tangible cooperation. This strategic partnership not only signifies a deepened bilateral relationship but also sets a course for collaborative efforts in addressing global challenges.
