Vietnam is underscoring its expanding influence in fostering ASEAN-Russia cooperation, following the ASEAN–Russia Commemorative Summit that celebrated 35 years of dialogue relations. Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung emphasized Vietnam’s pivotal role in the summit’s success, advocating for ASEAN’s central position and bolstering the strategic partnership with Russia. The Vietnamese delegation, led by Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng, focused on enhancing dialogue, cooperation, peaceful dispute resolution, and adherence to international law.
At the summit, Vietnam proposed broadening collaboration across critical sectors like energy, trade, transport connectivity, agriculture, and digital transformation. A significant outcome was the adoption of new frameworks designed to fortify ASEAN–Russia cooperation through 2030, with energy identified as a key pillar. Demonstrating its commitment to future regional collaboration, Vietnam announced plans to host the ASEAN–Russia Young Diplomats Summit in 2027.
On the summit’s sidelines, Prime Minister Hưng engaged in discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Both leaders reiterated their dedication to enhancing the Vietnam–Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, focusing on expanding cooperation in domains such as energy, trade, infrastructure, science and technology, education, and transport.
Vietnam highlighted that the summit’s results are poised to strengthen ASEAN-Russia relations, contributing to regional stability and unlocking new opportunities for economic growth and cooperation across Eurasia. The emphasis on energy as a major partnership pillar reflects a strategic alignment, promising to facilitate significant advancements in ASEAN-Russia ties over the coming years.
