In a significant meeting in Hanoi, Vietnam and the World Bank have solidified their commitment to enhancing collaboration in areas crucial for Vietnam’s future, such as water security, climate resilience, and sustainable development. Deputy Prime Minister Hồ Quốc Dũng engaged with senior officials from the World Bank to discuss ongoing and future projects aimed at addressing these pressing issues.
The Vietnamese government expressed appreciation for the World Bank’s enduring support in critical sectors like infrastructure, environmental protection, and agriculture. Over the years, projects funded by the World Bank have been instrumental in advancing water resource management, ensuring food security, and bolstering efforts for climate adaptation across various regions of Vietnam.
Emphasizing the importance of water security as a strategic priority, Deputy Prime Minister Dũng pointed out the increasing climate-related challenges, particularly in areas like the Mekong Delta. He conveyed Vietnam’s backing for the World Bank’s “Water for the Future” initiative and encouraged the expansion of comprehensive cooperation in water management and climate resilience.
The World Bank, in turn, reiterated its dedication to supporting Vietnam through various means, including financing, technical assistance, and policy advice, as well as providing international expertise. Bank officials highlighted that water security and climate adaptation would feature prominently in their forthcoming partnership framework with Vietnam.
Discussions also covered the enhancement of collaboration in climate finance, sustainable water management, disaster resilience, and green development. Both parties focused on accelerating initiatives that aid vulnerable communities and foster long-term environmental sustainability, underscoring the shared vision for a resilient and sustainable future.
