In a recent ASEAN+3 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Manila, Việt Nam emphasized the need for enhanced economic integration and regional resilience. Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung called for increased cooperation among ASEAN nations, alongside China, Japan, and South Korea, focusing on trade, connectivity, and sustainable development. He underscored the importance of implementing regional trade agreements effectively while extending collaboration in crucial areas such as energy security, food security, digital transformation, innovation, and clean energy.
Minister Trung further proposed the exploration of regional energy cooperation mechanisms as a strategy to bolster resilience against future economic and geopolitical challenges. His call to action underlined a broader push for strategic partnerships among these nations to navigate the complexities of the global economic landscape.
The meeting underscored ASEAN+3’s pivotal role as a platform for regional cooperation, with participating countries committing to fast-tracking the ASEAN+3 Work Plan 2023–2027. The ministers expressed their support for intensified financial cooperation, the expansion of regional food reserves, and renewable energy projects. They also advocated for increased investment in education, technology, tourism, and cultural exchanges, recognizing these areas as vital to the region’s future growth and stability.
China, Japan, and South Korea reiterated their commitment to supporting ASEAN’s central role in regional affairs. They pledged ongoing assistance in advancing the ASEAN Community Vision 2045, highlighting their dedication to fostering a cohesive and prosperous regional community.
