Thailand is bracing for continued heavy rainfall and potential flooding as the country’s Smart Water Operation Centre issues alerts amid an intensifying southwest monsoon. The monsoon, which is gaining strength, is expected to bring significant rainfall particularly to the eastern regions and the western coast of southern Thailand. Residents in these areas have been advised to stay vigilant and monitor for possible flash floods and forest runoff.
The weather conditions are being influenced by a stronger southwest monsoon affecting the Andaman Sea, the Gulf of Thailand, and Thailand itself. Additionally, a monsoon trough extending across northern regions into Vietnam is contributing to the likelihood of widespread thunderstorms. These meteorological factors are expected to result in scattered storms and heavy rainfall from June 30 to July 3, with eastern Thailand and the southern west coast facing the highest risks.
As the monsoon system is anticipated to shift northward between July 4 and July 6, the rainfall is expected to persist. During this period, Thailand will continue to experience the influence of strong southwest winds, which could exacerbate the weather conditions.
Officials have urged communities, particularly those in vulnerable areas, to stay informed about the evolving weather situation. The authorities emphasize the importance of being prepared for sudden flooding, advising residents to remain alert and take necessary precautions to ensure safety during this period of heightened weather activity.
