Vietnamese Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng has advocated for the establishment of an elite, professional, and swiftly deployable international search and rescue team to bolster the nation’s involvement in global humanitarian and disaster relief missions. His remarks came during a ceremony that recognized Vietnam’s rescue efforts in Venezuela following two devastating earthquakes. The Prime Minister lauded the 124-member contingent of military and public security personnel for their exceptional professionalism and commitment to humanitarian service.
During their mission in Venezuela, the Vietnamese team made significant contributions by recovering 57 victims from the rubble, distributing 5.6 tonnes of essential relief supplies, and providing medical assistance to over 130 residents. Additionally, they offered financial aid to communities heavily impacted by the natural disaster. This operation underscores Vietnam’s growing capability and commitment to international humanitarian efforts.
Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng emphasized the need for enhancing Vietnam’s rescue capabilities by investing in modern equipment, offering specialized training, and fostering improved coordination both domestically and with international partners. He also stressed the importance of providing better support and recognition for those personnel who participate in overseas humanitarian missions, highlighting their vital role in global relief efforts.
In recognition of their extraordinary contributions, the Vietnamese rescue team was honored with Venezuela’s prestigious Hero of Venezuela Medal. This accolade serves as a testament to their dedication and the positive impact of their work in aiding communities in crisis.
