Vietnam and Malaysia are enhancing their defence cooperation as both nations aim to bolster bilateral relations and contribute to regional stability. This development was highlighted during talks in Hanoi between Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister, General Phan Văn Giang, and Malaysia’s outgoing Ambassador, Dato’ Tan Yang Thai. General Giang commended Ambassador Tan for his significant role in strengthening the partnership between the two countries.
In their discussions, Giang emphasized the progress made in defence relations, noting regular military exchanges, policy discussions, and training cooperation as key areas of advancement. Additionally, the two countries have been coordinating effectively at international and multilateral events, which has further solidified their defence ties.
General Giang underscored the importance of continuing to implement existing agreements and encouraged more robust engagement through high-level meetings and established defence cooperation mechanisms. By doing so, both Vietnam and Malaysia can further enhance their strategic partnership in the region.
Looking ahead, Giang extended an invitation to Malaysia’s defence leaders and companies to participate in the Vietnam International Defence Expo 2026, scheduled to be held in Hanoi. This event represents an opportunity for both countries to deepen their collaboration in the defence sector.
Expressing gratitude, Ambassador Tan acknowledged the support from Vietnam’s defence ministry and military during his tenure. He conveyed optimism that the growing defence ties between Vietnam and Malaysia would continue to support peace and prosperity in the region.
