Vietnam’s Party General Secretary and State President Tô Lâm has urged Hà Nội to pursue accelerated economic growth while maintaining a focus on sustainable development and enhancing the quality of life for its citizens. In a recent meeting with the city’s leaders, he acknowledged Hà Nội’s achievements in institutional reforms, infrastructure, and administrative enhancements but highlighted the need to address persistent challenges such as underutilized resources and slower-than-anticipated growth.
Tô Lâm emphasized the importance of unlocking dormant resources and expediting critical infrastructure projects. He also called for increased support for businesses, tourism, and innovation while urging improvements in public services. Key areas identified for priority attention include alleviating traffic congestion, tackling pollution, expanding housing, and boosting investments in education, healthcare, and digital transformation.
Hà Nội’s authorities have been set the ambitious target of achieving an 11% growth in Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) by 2026. This follows a notable economic growth rate of 8.22% in the first half of the year, which surpassed the national average. The leadership has been tasked with sustaining this momentum while ensuring that growth is both inclusive and sustainable.
Despite the progress made, Tô Lâm pointed out that delays in major urban projects and the full potential of resources remaining untapped are areas that require prompt action. He stressed the need for the city to adopt measures that would not only drive economic progress but also improve governance and the overall quality of life for its residents.
