Vietnam and Canada have taken a significant step in strengthening their bilateral relations by adopting an Action Plan aimed at implementing their Strategic Partnership. This plan, agreed upon by Vietnamese Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung and Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand during talks in Ottawa, outlines specific areas for enhanced cooperation between the two nations.
The Action Plan is comprehensive, covering a wide array of sectors including political and diplomatic relations, trade and investment, science and technology, digital transformation, healthcare, education, energy security, sustainable development, transport, infrastructure, defense and security, law enforcement, culture, and people-to-people exchanges. Both ministers emphasized the importance of turning the leaders’ commitments into concrete programs and projects, underlining the need for regular reviews and updates to the plan.
To ensure the plan’s effective implementation, the ministers called for increased coordination among government agencies, local authorities, and businesses. They also expressed a mutual commitment to strengthening existing bilateral consultation mechanisms and exploring additional dialogue frameworks of strategic importance. Regional and international cooperation were also key discussion points, with both countries agreeing to work together through multilateral platforms such as the United Nations, ASEAN, and APEC.
Additionally, Vietnam and Canada have pledged to support each other in hosting upcoming APEC meetings, with Vietnam backing Canada’s hosting of the Francophonie Summit in 2028. This agreement marks a significant milestone in the strategic partnership between the two countries, promising a deeper collaboration across various important sectors.
