Significant strides have been made in the cooperation plan between Vietnam and Laos, with both countries agreeing to bolster their collaboration across various sectors such as investment, trade, infrastructure, energy, and human resource development. During a mid-year meeting held in Da Nang, officials from the two nations evaluated the achievements of the first eight months of 2026 and set forth priorities for the remainder of the year.
Economic ties have seen substantial growth, highlighted by Vietnamese businesses launching 20 new investment projects in Laos, amounting to $638.3 million within the first seven months. Laos continues to be Vietnam’s primary destination for overseas investment, hosting approximately 300 Vietnamese-backed projects valued at over $7 billion. Additionally, bilateral trade between the two countries reached around $1.3 billion in the first half of 2026, reflecting a robust economic relationship.
The energy, transport, construction, and infrastructure sectors are witnessing enhanced cooperation, with both nations aiming to strengthen connectivity.
