Vietnam is actively working to enhance its trade and investment relations with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and Egypt, focusing on broadening market access and fostering stronger economic partnerships. Vietnamese Vice President Võ Thị Ánh Xuân emphasized the importance of leveraging the Vietnam-EAEU Free Trade Agreement to boost bilateral trade and investment. She suggested potential upgrades to the agreement and called on the EAEU to resolve trade barriers impacting Vietnamese products such as textiles, footwear, and rice.
The discussions also highlighted the need for improved coordination of trade data, the acceleration of joint committee meetings, and the increased use of electronic certificates of origin. Officials from the EAEU pointed out that bilateral trade has nearly doubled, underscoring ample opportunities for further growth.
In a separate engagement, Vice President Xuân met with Egyptian Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Hussein Mohamed Ahmed Eissa. She advocated for more high-level exchanges and deeper economic collaboration between Vietnam and Egypt. The vice president also pushed for advancements toward a Vietnam-Egypt free trade agreement, identifying agriculture, infrastructure, tourism, digital transformation, education, and renewable energy as key sectors for potential cooperation.
The meetings took place in Bishkek, coinciding with Vietnam’s participation in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Plus Summit. This is part of Hanoi’s broader strategy to fortify economic and diplomatic ties with regional partners.
