Vietnam and Côte d’Ivoire are actively working to bolster their bilateral relationship, focusing on expanding trade, investment, and collaboration across various sectors. This mutual commitment was underscored by Vietnamese leader Tô Lâm, who pointed out the significant development in their trade relations, particularly highlighting that Côte d’Ivoire emerged as Vietnam’s largest trading partner in Africa by 2025.
In emphasizing the need for diversification, Tô Lâm advocated for broadening their trade beyond the traditional exchange of products like cashew nuts and rice. He also highlighted the potential for increased cooperation in numerous sectors. These sectors include agriculture, telecommunications, oil and gas, digital transformation, cybersecurity, infrastructure, mineral processing, and electric vehicles, showcasing a wide array of opportunities for both nations.
Côte d’Ivoire, in turn, expressed a keen interest in attracting Vietnamese businesses, aiming to leverage this partnership to expand its influence and cooperation throughout West Africa. This interest reflects a strategic effort to foster deeper economic ties and collaboration in the region, which could be mutually beneficial for both countries.
The discussions between the two nations also touched on enhancing parliamentary exchanges and strengthening ties in education, workforce development, and people-to-people connections. These areas of cooperation are seen as vital for nurturing a robust and enduring partnership that goes beyond economic interests.
