In Hanoi, Vietnam’s Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Phạm Gia Túc engaged in discussions with Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys, focusing on strengthening bilateral collaboration in numerous pivotal sectors. The dialogue underscored the ample opportunities to enhance partnerships in areas such as trade, investment, the digital economy, energy, logistics, cybersecurity, as well as science and technology.
Vietnam took the opportunity to urge Lithuania to back the ratification process of the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) among the remaining EU member states. Additionally, there was an appeal for Lithuania to advocate for the lifting of the European Commission’s “yellow card” on Vietnamese seafood exports, which has been a point of contention. Lithuania, in return, expressed a strong commitment to bolstering Vietnam-EU relations and disclosed plans to dispatch a business delegation to Vietnam to identify potential investment ventures.
The meeting also resulted in a mutual agreement to amplify cooperation within the United Nations framework. Both countries stressed the importance of fortifying ASEAN-EU relations and emphasized their shared commitment to promoting peace, stability, and the freedom of navigation, adhering strictly to international law.
This engagement highlights the proactive steps both nations are taking to deepen their diplomatic and economic ties. The anticipated Lithuanian business delegation’s visit to Vietnam is expected to further explore and solidify investment opportunities, reflecting a significant move towards more robust bilateral relations.
