Thailand is making significant strides in enhancing its aviation network through strategic collaborations and infrastructure upgrades. The country has recently formed new partnerships with Vietnam Airlines and flydubai to boost air connectivity and support its burgeoning tourism industry. These efforts are accompanied by plans to introduce advanced air traffic management systems at regional airports to further streamline operations.
In a bid to capitalize on the growing demand for travel between Vietnam and Thailand, Vietnam Airlines has introduced a new route connecting Ho Chi Minh City and Phuket. Launched on July 2, this service operates four times a week, offering an annual capacity of approximately 39,500 seats. This initiative is expected to accommodate the increasing number of Vietnamese tourists, with over 300,000 having visited Thailand in the first half of the year alone.
Meanwhile, flydubai has expanded its offerings by initiating daily flights between Dubai and Bangkok starting July 1. Recognizing the importance of enhancing connectivity between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Thailand, the airline plans to double this service to twice daily beginning September 15. This move is anticipated to facilitate greater travel and trade between the two regions, underscoring Thailand’s appeal as a key travel destination.
Complementing these international partnerships, Thailand is also focusing on modernizing its domestic aviation infrastructure. The government has announced plans to implement the Aerodrome Flight Information Service (AFIS) at regional airports to improve air traffic management and operational efficiency. Initially, the AFIS system will be deployed at Phrae and Phetchabun airports by 2028, with potential expansion to other regional airports thereafter. This initiative aims to enhance access to Thailand’s secondary cities, thereby promoting regional development and tourism.
Through these efforts, Thailand is positioning itself as a more accessible and attractive destination for international travelers. By fostering stronger airline partnerships and investing in modern aviation technology, the country is set to enhance its connectivity and support its thriving tourism sector, contributing to broader economic growth.
