In a bid to bolster Vietnam’s economic ties with South Korea, Vietnam’s National Assembly President Trần Thanh Mẫn recently engaged with leaders of prominent South Korean conglomerates during his visit to Seoul. He emphasized the potential for expanding investment in key sectors such as high-tech industries, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, energy, and sustainable development.
Meeting with Samsung Electronics CEO Roh Tae-moon, Mẫn acknowledged the company’s significant role in Vietnam’s economic landscape through investment, job creation, and support for local businesses. He urged Samsung to further its high-tech investments, aligning with Vietnam’s economic development goals. Roh assured that Samsung would continue to align its operations with Vietnam’s priorities, focusing on digital transformation, technological innovation, and workforce development. The company has shown support for Vietnamese enterprises through initiatives in smart factory automation and skills development.
During discussions with SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, Mẫn advocated for increased investment in semiconductors, AI, renewable energy, and emission-reduction technologies. He expressed support for SK’s intention to establish a large-scale AI center in Vietnam and its plans to explore investments in energy infrastructure and AI data centers.
In talks with LG Innotek CEO Moon Hyuk-soo, Mẫn highlighted the importance of LG Group’s investment, which exceeds $10 billion, in Vietnam. He encouraged deeper collaboration with Vietnamese suppliers and emphasized the need for advancing technology and skills development. LG acknowledged Vietnam’s growing significance in its global production network.
Mẫn also engaged with Lotte Group Chairman Shin Dong-bin, encouraging the expansion of investments in smart urban development, infrastructure, tourism, and services. He urged Lotte to expedite major projects while maintaining a commitment to sustainability, green development, and ESG standards. These meetings underscore Vietnam’s strategic efforts to attract high-quality foreign investment and enhance economic cooperation with South Korea, particularly in the fields of advanced technology, energy, and digital industries.
