Patrick Achi, President of the National Assembly of Côte d’Ivoire, commenced a four-day official visit to Hà Nội on August 23, responding to an invitation from Trần Thanh Mẫn, the President of Vietnam’s National Assembly. The timing of Achi’s arrival is significant as it follows the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Côte d’Ivoire, a milestone celebrated in October 2025.
Throughout his visit, which spans August 23 to 26, Achi is scheduled to engage with top Vietnamese officials, including the Vietnamese Party General Secretary and President Tô Lâm. Additionally, he is set to conduct discussions with Trần Thanh Mẫn. The agenda for these meetings is anticipated to emphasize the enhancement of parliamentary cooperation and the strengthening of economic and trade connections between the two nations.
The Vietnamese authorities have expressed that Achi’s visit underscores a mutual interest in deepening bilateral ties and exchanging legislative practices. This visit marks a continuation of Côte d’Ivoire’s legislative engagement with Vietnam, being the second instance in three years that a head of the Ivorian legislature has traveled to Vietnam.
As both countries look to the future, this visit represents a commitment to nurturing a partnership that has developed over half a century. The discussions held during Achi’s stay are expected to lay the groundwork for increased collaboration and mutual benefit, further solidifying the relationship between Vietnam and Côte d’Ivoire.
